I wanted to talk a little about body image this week.
It seems in society there is pressure to look a certain way, and a big part of this has to do with a person’s weight. We see photoshopped models on magazine covers looking ultra skinny and people aspire to be that as that is what pretty is portrayed as.
Obviously this false reality was finally picked up on and there’s been some changes. Instead, now I hear:
“oooh no, that’s not nice, I like a girl with curves instead.”
On the surface you think:
“Yes! Finally! People understand that girls aren’t all sticks, and curvy is beautiful too”
Then you dig a little deeper and see there’s still a long way to go. You think it’s saying people are beautiful at any size – but in reality it’s still body shaming, just the other way around. We’ve gone from shaming the chubbier people to shaming the skinny people. That’s not okay.
I can’t count the times I’ve been told I’m too skinny and need to put on weight. People seem to think it’s a compliment. It’s not. Contrary to belief, I eat. A lot. I couldn’t put on the weight even if I tried. So to tell me that my body is not beautiful because it’s too skinny, is just as rude as to tell someone they are not beautiful for being overweight.
Beauty does not come in a certain size.
Everyone has beauty.

The Busy Life of a Student Teacher...
Hello Littl’uns!
I thought I’d give you a bit of a life update this week, as well – things have been happening.
I finally got my placement! I start at the beginning of November and I’ll be teaching up until Christmas. I’m yet to meet my class, but I’ll be going in next Thursday to introduce myself and to get to know them. All I know so far is that they are a year five class (age 9/10).
For the past two years I’ve taught KS1 (Key Stage 1) and EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), so this is a bit of a jump for me. I am excited though. I feel like with this age group I’ll be able to set them off on more investigations without the constant need for guidance the younger ones need. Though I’m pretty short myself so my main worry is that they’ll tower over me. I’ll have to find out a pair of comfy heels..
As a part of my extended maths module, I did get to teach a lesson on area to a mixed group of year 5/6 children today. It went excellently. I told them a story about two people in a rainforest who needed to build a shelter. The shelter needed flooring of 60m squared, and so the children teamed up to create as many different shelters with the area of 60m squared as they could. The higher ability were working with decimals and triangular shaped huts. I left it up to the children to choose how they would go about measuring the area, and how they would record. Some children were using calculators, others rulers, others squared paper. The activity catered for all abilities. I was impressed by a particular groups decision to create a table with the headings “Shelter” , “Size”, “Did it work” and “Why?”. Having this opportunity today has very much increased my confidence in teaching older children.
In other news, other aspects of my life are looking up! But that’s all I’ll say on here for now!

Selfishness Vs Selflessness.

This week I made a video (check that out at the bottom of this page, or click here ;)) on my inability to say no. I have always struggled with this. I’m a people pleaser. I don’t like to disappoint, and I’ll go out of my way to make people happy. This selfless nature, whilst on the surface seems a positive quality, in actuality is not all it’s cracked up to be. The truth of it all is that you cannot please everyone. Whatever you do, someone is going to have to be disadvantaged – and why should that always be you? Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t take anyone but yourself into consideration, but I am saying that maybe a selfish element isn’t so bad. As long as it’s not too dominant in your personality of course! You are just as important as the next person. I don’t care if they have more money than you, or if they have a higher social status. You are the same. You matter just as much. You deserve to be getting what you want out of life. If someone asks to borrow money for something insignificant, but you’ve been looking forward to that donut you’re going to buy on the way home all day? You can say no! Don’t be rude about it of course, but putting yourself first is not a bad thing. How are you expected to get anywhere in life if you don’t look out for yourself sometimes? Saying all this – I still have a long way to go. I’d lend you my donut money, and I probably wouldn’t ask for it back. There does need to be a balance between selfishness and selflessness within people. When that balance is disturbed either way, people get disappointed. Everyone deserves to be happy. Everyone. September Favourites!
Hello Littl’uns!
I thought I’d have a go at one of these monthly favourite things. I’ve split my favourites into 6 topics: Beauty, Tv/film, Music, Internet, Food and Random. So without further ado, here are my monthly favourites for the month of September!
Beauty.
I've been really into nail varnish lately - I just can't get enough of the stuff! My two favourites this month have been:
Avon. Nailwear pro+. Romance. £3
It was so difficult to capture the colour here. It's such a subtle shimmery pink/purple. It's absolutely beautiful. The formulation isn't wonderful. It chips fairly easy, and does need a couple coats to get a nice solid colour. For £3 though, you can't really go wrong!
Barry M. Nail Paint. Mint Green. £2.99
A similar price for a similar quality. I would suggest around three layers for a nice solid colour. It is kind of bright, but it's one of those colours that work for all seasons.
Tv/Film.
How I Met Your Mother has started up for season 9 and I am so happy it's back! I'm excited to see where things go now we have in fact - met the mother.
Music.
I find, spending most of my time on YouTube, I actually listen to a lot more covers of songs than I do originals. Here are some covers of songs I've loved!
Wrecking Ball: 1, 2, 3, 4
Royals: 1, 2, 3
Internet.
Besides dear old Blogger of course, I am absolutely obsessed with cookie clicker! All you do is click to make a bunch of cookies and upgrade stuff but it's so addicting. Don't judge me, okay?!
Food.
Now, my favourite chocolate ever are MaltEaster bunnies, which are only out around the Easter season. So when I saw these I was beyond excited! They're exactly the same as the bunnies, but in a reindeer shape. It may be a little early to be discussing Christmas, but it's never too early for great chocolate.
Random.
Stitch! He isn't actually mine, he's my best friends. However, I've been given the responsibility of looking after him, which of course, I'm doing great at!
